How is This Marble Formed?

This is a type of metamorphic rock that was created during the re-crystallization of limestone after intense heat and pressure. In its composition, the Calacatta Borghini marble has calcium carbonate that is the component responsible for the white color. The distinguished veining in this Marble are a mix of different sizes, shapes and thickness of grey. In the example above, you will also find a golden nuance that can be found in some slabs.

Where to use Calacatta Borghini Marble?

This is a versatile natural stone that can be used in so many different projects. You will find it a great fit for key projects, considering the elegance of marble. Here are some of the uses of Calacatta Borghini Marble:

  1. Countertops: Calacatta Borghini Marble is a popular choice for kitchen and bathroom countertops. Although it is a timeless type of stone, Marble can be sensitive to scratching and staining, so we highly recommending taking the proper care such as sealing and regular maintenance.
  2. Flooring: Calacatta Borghini Marble is a great choice for flooring in high-traffic areas.
  3. Backsplash: The veining of this marble adds an eye-catching visual for full height backsplashes.
  4. Walls: You can also apply the stone to create stunning accent such as shower walls, coffee table, fireplace surround, etc.

How to Maintain the Calacatta Borghini Marble?

This natural stone can last for years if taken the proper care. Here are some tips for maintaining the beauty of Calacatta Borghini Marble:

  1. Sealing: It is important to seal Calacatta Borghini Marble to protect it from stains and scratches. A high-quality sealant should be applied every 6-12 months, depending on the usage.
  2. Cleaning: Clean the stone regularly with a pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge. Abrasive cleaners or scrubbers will scratch the surface.
  3. Avoid acidic substances: this is a very sensitive stone to acidic substances like vinegar, citrus juices, tomato sauce, wine, etc. These substances will etch the surface of the marble, leaving dull marks. Clean the spills immediately to avoid damage.

Pro Tip

Avoid heat: Although Calacatta Borghini Marble is heat resistant, it is still important to avoid placing hot pans or dishes directly on the surface.

From Basic to Brilliant: Unveiling the Levels of Granite

Luna Pearl, Copacabana and Blue Bahia

When it comes to choosing granite for your next project, you may have heard terms like “entry level”, “mid-grade” and “high-grade” thrown around. But what do these terms actually mean, and how do they impact your decision-making process?

Let’s break Granite down!

Level 1: Entry level

The most affordable granite option is entry-level granite, also known as level 1. In this type of granite, the pattern is simple and consistent, with few variations in color and pattern. The stone generally comes from larger quarries and much more availability. The entry-level granite option is a great choice for those on a tight budget or for projects where cost is a major concern. Some options: White G, Luna Pearl, Silver Pearl, Black Pearl, New Caledonia, Azul Platino, Black San Gabriel, Ubatuba, etc.

Level 2: Mid-grade

Compared to entry-level granite, mid-grade granite offers a wider range of colors and patterns. It is often sourced from smaller quarries. The mid-grade granite option is a good choice for those wanting to achieve a higher-end look without investing a lot. Some options: Absolute Black, Colonial White, Fantasy Brown, Silver Grey, Viscount White, etc.

Level 3: High-grade

High-grade, or Level 3+ granite, is a greater option compared to the two previous ones. It offers different patterns with a wide range of colors and veining. The high-grade granite is sourced from smaller quarries with more limited availability, which drives up the cost. Some options: Milky Way, Blue Dunes, Yellow Delicious, Absolute Cream, etc.

Levels 4, 5, 6+

It’s important to keep in mind that the levels don’t end at 3! You can get granite grades as high as 6+ for a really high-quality stone. That includes the most unique and exotic granite. These types of granite are ideal for those who want a luxurious and high-end look for their project. Some options: Copacabana, Blue Bahia, White Eyes, Alaska Gold, etc.

There are different levels of granite; all are excellent in quality, but the availability on earth may affect the price.

Consider your budget, your project size, and your personal style preferences when choosing granite.

The Differences between Marble and Quartzite

In home design and renovation projects, marble and quartzite are both commonly used natural stones. There are some key differences between the two materials, despite both having their own unique characteristics.

Marble: A Timeless Beauty

Shadow Storm Marble

Marble is primarily composed of calcium carbonate, a metamorphic rock. It is formed when limestone is heated and pressured. Depending on where the marble was quarried, its veining and patterns can vary greatly.

Quartzite: Durability of the Natural Stone

Luce Di Luna Quartzite

Quartzite is primarily composed of quartz, making it a metamorphic rock. A high level of heat and pressure forms it when sandstone is subjected to high temperatures. Quartzite has a natural shine and is commonly white or light gray with marbling in colors such as pink, gray, gold, or red. It can resemble marble. Additionally, due to mineral impurities, quartzite can also be found in uncommon hues such as blue, green, or orange.

Marble vs Quartzite

The durability of quartzite and marble is also a distinguishing characteristic. Despite its softness and porosity, marble is relatively susceptible to staining and etching. Quartzite, on the other hand, is a hard stone that is much more durable and scratch-resistant.

Marble requires regular sealing and polishing to maintain its shine and prevent staining. In contrast to quartzite, however, quartzite usually requires little maintenance cleaning with soap and water only.

Due to their similar appearance, some quarries market their quartzite as “Marble-look” quartzite.

The composition, durability, and maintenance requirements of the two materials differ significantly.

Take these factors into consideration when choosing marble or quartzite for your home design project.

Debunking 5 Myths About the Stone Industry

The stone industry is filled with myths and misconceptions that can lead to confusion and misunderstandings. In this blog post, we will be debunking some of the most common myths in the stone industry and providing accurate information to help you make informed decisions when it comes to your stone projects.

Myth #1: Natural stone is more expensive than man-made stone

While it is true that some natural stones can be more expensive than some man-made stones, this is not always the case. The cost of natural stone can vary depending on factors such as the type of material, the location it is sourced from, and the quality of the stone. In some cases, natural stone can actually be cheaper than man-made.

Myth #2: Natural stone is difficult to maintain

A second myth in the stone industry is that natural stone is difficult to maintain. This is not true. While natural stone does require some maintenance, it is no more difficult to maintain than man-made stone. The key is to understand the type of stone you have and to take proper care of it. This includes regular cleaning and sealing, as well as avoiding harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning products.

Myth #3: Quartz is indestructible

While Quartz is a durable and long-lasting material, it is not indestructible. It can be damaged by extreme heat, and acidic substances, for example.

Myth #4: Marble is a low-maintenance option

Marble is a beautiful and elegant material, but it is not a low-maintenance option. Marble is porous and can be easily stained if not properly sealed. It should be cleaned with a mild detergent and water and be avoided acidic substances like lemon juice.

Myth #5: Quartz is not natural

Quartz is a natural material that is made up of mostly natural quartz and other minerals. It is engineered to be more durable and consistent than natural stone.
